I am a Full Professor in Entrepreneurship. I completed my PhD at Cardiff University, UK, in 2005, along with a PG Diploma in Research Methods in 2003. Before that, I earned my MSc in Electronic Commerce from Coventry University in 2001 and a BSc in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Baluchistan, Pakistan, in 1997.
My international reputation in research is reflected in my 63 publications, which include 23 articles in high-impact international journals, 4 edited books, 7 book chapters with major publishers, and 28 contributions to international conferences. I serve as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Small Business Management, review funding applications for the ESRC, and assess articles for leading 4* and 3* journals in my field. Additionally, I am on the editorial team for a special issue with Entrepreneurship Research and Development (3*) focusing on the contextual embeddedness of women’s entrepreneurship research. I have also edited four research anthologies on women’s entrepreneurship, sustainable entrepreneurship, and sustainability with Routledge. My status as an internationally established expert is further demonstrated by an h-index of 18 (Google), with my papers receiving 3,183 citations (Google).
My research explores the socio-economic dimensions of entrepreneurial pathways and their potential to empower disadvantaged groups, including women, immigrants, refugees, youth, transgender individuals, and those with disabilities. Using institutional theory, GLOBE’s cultural dimensions, and data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, I investigate ways to address the intersecting disadvantages caused by gender- and ability-based discrimination. My work has significant engagement and impact potential, influencing governmental and NGO policies.
I have supervised 15 PhD dissertations and over 100 MBA/MSc theses. Over the years, I have also secured various research grants from UK and EU funding bodies.
